VERY LOW BIRTH WEIGHT (VLBW) POSTNATAL GROWTH CHARTS
This website allows the user to enter the Birth Weight, Birth Length and Birth Head Circumference of a 501-1500 gram infant and to construct individualized, expected growth curves based upon the NICHD Neonatal Research Network Growth Observational Study (Ehrenkranz, et al. Pediatrics, 1999; 104:280-289). Note that while these expected growth curves are based upon data collected from a large heterogenous population and reflect nutritional practices common in 1994-95, the "expected" curve may not represent optimal growth.
  • Enter the birth weight in grams and click the Weight Table button. A table with expected body weights calculated for each day will be displayed on the next page. Blanks for observed weights are provided. Note that birth weight must be entered to generate any of the curves for birth weight, length or head circumference. Click the "Back to Main" button to return to the main page
  • Click the Weight Curve button. A curve based on expected weight calculated for each day will be displayed on the next page.
  • Enter the birth length in cm and click the Length Table button. A table with expected body lengths calculated for each week will be displayed on the next page. Blanks for observed body lengths are provided.
  • Click the Length Curve button. A curve based on expected body length calculated for each week will be displayed on the next page.
  • Enter the birth Head Circumference in cm and click the Head Circumference Table button. A table with expected Head Circumferences calculated for each week will be displayed on the next page. Blanks for observed head Circumferences are provided.
  • Click the Head Circumference Curve button. A curve based on expected head circumferences calculated for each week will be displayed on the next page.
